Sunday morning - pictures from Saturday night dinner + Walkabout

Some Saturday night photo's outside the compound where we are staying:

This is a photo of a garden in the back yard of a house nearby. They also have two goats roaming the yard and eating, I'm sure for the built in milk supply.

We have been eating well here in Ukraine. The typical dinner spread looks like the one to the left. Every meal has tomato and cucumber. Apparently they are the local produce and easy to get. Fortunately my wife and I like raw tomato and cucumber :-)

Others do not and I'm sure are looking forward to a change in diet in this area. There are usually peaches and cookies available as well.

Most meals have had some form of rice, salami, bologna or noodles. Cheese is also prevalant.

All in all the food has been very good.

These are some of the wild dogs that live in the area. They do a good job of keeping one awake at night. (NOISY!!)

Alongside the highway up at the corner. It is not uncommon to see piles of trash thrown from vehicles alongside the road. No deposit laws here. The kids were also thrilled that there is no seatbelt law. The drivers drive insane here and we've seen accidents but there are no seat belts. In fact, it hasn't been uncommon to pack 15 people in a 12 passenger van with people on eachother's laps. The average public bus here appears to have people overflowing as it moves from stop to stop. Standing room only.

Well we're off to breakfast this morning and then our first Ukranian church service! Pray the kids will be able to sit for two hours not understanding anything going on. We do not know if we will have any translation. That said, I'm sure God will work in all our hearts as we worship with people that have the same heart even though they speak a different language. Jim mentioned yesterday he thought it was a little slice of heaven. When we get there everyone will be worshiping the same God and making a joyful noise. I'm guessing (having never been there yet), that is what we'll experience. See you soon!!!

  1. Hi, You should be back from the service by now and I'm sure you are all just as excited as I am with the beautiful people God has created in Odessa. I pray that the Spirit is giving you understanding even when you hear a different language. Our God is so Great!!!! The weather here in Michigan is a complete reverse from July. All my window have condensation on them from the humidity. Today the heat index should be getting into the 100's. Summer has finally arrived. I love hot weather. Love, Dawn
