After dinner status update. 7:10pm here

This is a picture of one of the kids rooms. This is a new seminary building but it is not yet occupied. No screens, the stairs aren't quite completed yet etc but there are beds and we have a place to sleep.

We also brought screen material. In case anyone wonders, Duct Tape doesn't cut it. You need gorilla tape. (Two people brought that tape, it works great!) After a miserable attempt at screen installation, Mr Wynalda gave up and called in the experts!

Hans and Frans (ok, so it's Mr Hoekwater and Mr. Snoeyink -- Hans and Frans were still in New York.

This is a view of the things across the driveway. These are shipping containers but as you can see, some appear to have been converted to more than that. Not sure if people live in them but there are all kinds of living quarters here in Ukraine.

The president of Ukraine came to Odessa today. This caused some complication for those meeting us at the airport. Apparently EVERYTHING stops when the president arrives. Much like Grand Rapids.

We had our first Ukranian dinner tonight at the seminary. The food was not what some of us expected and it was actually quite good. We had juice, flat bottled water (the locals prefer it "with gas", and Coca Cola light on the table. It was very nice of them to think of us. The kids are all doing very well. Still singing and playing games with each
other!

  1. Delighted to get news so quickly! Good to see you looking alive and not even too sleepy looking. Dad and Nathan caught a 22" small mouth today and 16 other bass in Crooked Lake. Kaitlyn and Mom pulled weeds. (Guess who's at our house.) Have a great night's sleep!!!! Keep the blogs coming!

  2. Wow! We are so glad to see that you have arrived safely. Caleb and I watched your plane take off from the viewing area in GR. Caleb said "Bye Hannah" as you soared into the clouds. :)

  3. I love this blog thing!!! I smiled when I saw the pictures because I knew exactly where you were and what you were doing. I'm jealous that you're going on a boat ride. I've never done that. I think of you all day long and am praying thoughout the day. Love and Blessing, Dawn
